RCIA Candidates Participate in Rite of Sending

At the 10:30 liturgy on Sunday, March 13 members of our RCIA program participated in the Rite of Sending.  This rite was repeated throughout our Diocese in every parish church.

We- about 800ish – arrived at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Syracuse for the Rite of Election & the Call to Continuing Conversion.  Bishop Cunningham welcomed all those who were part of the process, and each person was called forth to meet the Bishop and receive this Rite. This rite was the next step in the RCIA process and prepares them to participate fully in the the Easter Vigil April 23rd.

Our team from St. Mary’s, consisting of 12 persons, made up our catechumen, candidates, team members, sponsors and a guest. We car pooled from St. Mary’s after the Rite of Sending to the Cathedral in Syracuse.  (We did stop on the Thruway – for something to eat.)

The service was almost two hours – we were glad we stopped to eat.  Usually this Rite is on Saturday and Sunday, so the Diocese is divided in half.  Because the St. Patrick’s Day parade on Saturday, and the problem parking in downtown Syracuse, this Rite was only celebrated on one day.

Despite this – the Rite was especially moving with the music and the people.  Everyone gets to see the number of new Catholics that are part of the process and have chosen to become Catholic. All ages, all cultures were present. We are blessed to be part of our Church and rituals like this renew our gratitude to our Good and Gracious God.

Continued prayers please for all those involved throughout the Diocese especially the 5 who will become new Catholics and part of our Parish.
